"Negotiation Skills for Law Librarians "
This one-day interactive
workshop starts with a global perspective of negotiation theory
and moves quickly to analyzing and practicing each component of
the negotiation process. Exercises include both interpersonal and
group negotiations. Examples used during the workshop have been
developed from discussions with firm, academic and court law librarians
so that participants can sharpen their negotiation skills using
a familiar context.
Effective negotiations
involve both planning and conducting the actual negotiating sessions;
both of these important areas are covered in the workshop. The workshop's
overall goal is to enhance participant's skill and build confidence
in participating in the negotiation process.
Participants will be able to:
- Critique
the strengths and weaknesses of competitive and interest-based
bargaining
- Apply the
negotiating framework to real-life negotiating situations.
- Identify
the diversity conditions that impact negotiation situations
- Practice
targeted communication skills that identify one's position
- Design protocols
to shape the group process for developing negotiating issues,
proposals and priorities
- Develop strategies
to deal with negotiating challenges
- Determine
principles to resolve ethical dilemmas within the negotiation
process.
