We have some excellent private research services here in
California. They are located in Sacramento & can quickly get their hands
on items that are difficult for us to obtain at all. They can tailor a job
to the client & put together well-organized looseleaf volumes of relevant
research. They also keep files of some of their research (depending upon
confidentiality constraints) & are quite generous & collegial in assisting
librarians & law students with research tips & material from their
archives. They are active in local AALL chapters, not only as advertisers
& exhibitors, but also as speakers.
The most prominent of these are Tom Stallard's Legislative Intent
Service http://www.legintent.com/ & Carolina Rose's Legislative Research
Inc. http://www.lrihistory.com/ . Carolina has also been successful in
lobbying for accessibility of state legislative & regulatory documents &
has been a popular speaker in my Advanced Legal Research class.
