Hello,
At the close of our migration discussions today, I want to address Rob
Richard's questions from yesterday since noone else has. All I really have
to say is that I think it is important to realize when, and if, you
need/want each of the features Rob lists below. If you do, and I assume
you do, then you must list them in your System Specifications. You might
also weight how important each specification is to your library. Be as
detailed as possible. This is where having a technology guru comes in
handy--or a librarian who went to library school fairly recently!
For instance, in the STANDARDS section you would include:
Support for Z39.50
EDI compliant acquisitions
SQL compliant
Support for Unicode Version 3
Support for MARC 21 and previous versions
Support for UN/Edifac
XML compliant
SGML compliant
EAD compliant
Support for Dublin CORE, metadata
Ability to link to URLs via 856 tag
Unlimited bibliographic record size
etc.
Thanks for your participation today. Georgia
