The thread I picked up this morning from yesterday's posts included
speculation from academics who do not charge fees about whether fees
would work-Though I work in a law firm environment-could an academic who
does have fees address this? I know we use the law school library in
town that does issue public patron cards frequently-whenever we need to
do a 50 state survey or for 50-60 year old congressional records and the
like. Do the fees even begin to defray storage cost or are they even
viewed this way by law school administration?

Our final day gives us an opportunity to expand on our earlier themes of
the virtual law library, changing roles of librarians, collaborations,
and resource sharing. Please feel free to add comments on any of these
topics if you didn't get into the discussion earlier in the week. We
have some publishers subscribed to the listserv, and I hope we will hear
from them too.
The discussion has not fully addressed issues such as standards,
evaluative measures, legal publishing, knowledge management systems,
consortial relationships, and the changing law library user. These
areas are covered by one or more of our scenarios, but they haven't
generated much conversation.
The scenarios drafted by the Futures Committee offer several possible
visions of the future of law libraries. They are not predictions of
the
future, nor are they recommendations. They build on our background
reading, our examination of significant trends, our conversations with
librarians and others, and many hours of brainstorming. We hope they
will provide law librarians with some food for thought and some ideas
for possible actions.
What have we missed in these scenarios that you think will be part of
our future?
How can we as law librarians effect change and create our own futures?
What recommendations for action should come out of the Committee's final
report?
