What have been your experiences for services to women, the elderly, and
disabled prisoners? Do these prisoners get equal treatment? My experience
in Louisiana is that the women prisoners have been ignored for the most
part. Last year we began to reach out to the women prisoners at the
Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women by visiting the prison, talking
to the inmate substitute counsels, and bringing handouts about our
services. The inmates were hungry for information about getting copies of
their trial transcripts, habeas corpus information, and legal writing.
