Good morning. I am a 2000 graduate of Southern Connecticut State
University, on the outskirts of New Haven, Connecticut, and took some
classes online via the OnlineCSU service. I liked the variety of courses,
and really appreciate the fact that the program required reference,
cataloging, technology, and research courses of all students (incidentally,
I wrote a paper on required courses for my research course, and might try to
get it published). Like Barbara, we had a variety of library types
represented in the required courses, but especially people interested in
school and public libraries. A lot of the school librarian students were
public school teachers, mainly from Hartford. That was another good
thing-working with mature people with different backgrounds and interests.
I don't think I could always say the same thing about my law school
classmates.

Welcome to the discussion "What's Going On in Library Schools!"
The first discussion question is: What did you enjoy about your program?
I went to Emporia State University in Emporia. It is a small town about a 2
hour drive from the Kansas City area. The great thing about the program was
weekend classes. If a class was one hour, it required a one weekend
extensive study, usually in Emporia or Kansas City. This weekend included
Friday evening, Saturday and half day on Sunday. I also enjoyed the classes
because the program was included abstract or theory-oriented sessions. The
students' interests were a mixture of school, public, academic and
specialized libraries.
