Overview
The purpose of this manual is to offer guidelines to the officers and
committee chairs of the AALL Online Bibliographic Services Special Interest Section.
The Board consists of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Past Chair, the Secretary/Treasurer
and two Members at Large. Chairs of the standing committees are consulted periodically
through the year on various issues. Board meetings are held annually at the AALL
annual meeting. The outgoing Board generally meets on Saturday, after the SIS Council
meeting and prior to the annual SIS meeting. The incoming Board generally meets a day
or two later to prepare for SIS activities in the coming year.
OBS-SIS jointly sponsors the publication Technical Services Law Librarian (TSLL) with
the Technical Services SIS. TSLL is published quarterly, has an editor and columnists.
A subscription is provided to each OBS and TS member as a benefit of membership. OBS-SIS
and TS-SIS each appoint two members to serve with the editor on the editorial board.
Traditionally, the SIS co-sponsors a reception at the start of the AALL annual meeting
with several other SIS's, most recently the Technical Services SIS, Reader Services SIS,
and Computing Services SIS. Since 1987 it has been supported through the generous funding
of Innovative Interfaces, Inc. The balance of the cost is shared equally by the
participating SIS's. Approval for funding of this event must be cleared with the
AALL Board or AALL Executive Director.
The following pages contain the responsibilities of the officers and chairs of the Online
Bibliographic Services SIS. These responsibilities are not inclusive and may be amended in
the future. Among the other items included in the handbook is a copy of the current Bylaws,
the duties of SIS officers from the AALL SIS Handbook, copies of the program and workshop
proposal forms.
