1999-2000 PLL Public Relations Committee report

The PR Committee was composed of Amy Eaton, Chair, Margaret Ross, and Cindy Spohr. During the year we worked on a variety of projects.

I will list each below with a summary of the outcome.

Fundraising

At the 1999 Board Meeting, Kathie Sullivan asked the committee to prepare a memo on the feasibility of conducting a fundraiser. After reviewing various fundraising resources, we determined that a successful fundraiser must answer a series of questions before proceeding, such as support base, target goals, etc. After the initial goals are created, the format must be selected (cookbook, label holders, etc.). I believe this to be a large project which would need strong administrative support to be successful.

Charter

The PR Committee charter was revised to include our current responsibilities and to exclude those that have been assigned to other committees. The updated charge is posted on the PLL web page.

Web page

PLL substantially updated their web page this year. The PR committee added its updated charter, links to articles written by the committee and links to helpful PR sites. Many thanks to Terry Psarras for his help with this project.

Articles

We submitted three articles for publication in Perspectives. We also wrote a column on PLL for the SIS column in Spectrum.

Brochures

After reviewing the two PLL brochures, we decided to revise and simplify the Standards brochure. We also began revise and update the membership brochure. However, we were not able to meet the deadlines to have either brochure published by AALL. The process has been started and it can be completed next year.

Time capsule

The AALL PR committee asked all SIS, chapters and other groups to submit time capsules to AALL archives. These time capsules will be opened in 25 years. We managed that project and will ship the time capsule out in July.

Activity table

Our last project of the year is to administer, set-up and break down the PLL table in the activities section of the convention hall during this year's annual meeting. The table will feature the new multitasking directory, information on the independent law librarians, subscription forms for the Resource Guides, current PLL brochures and a display of our time capsule contents.
