The State, Court & County Law Libraries Special Interest Section awards program includes a series of awards presented at its annual meeting. They are the Bethany J. Ochal Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession, the O. James Werner Award for Distinguished Service to Persons with Disabilities, the Connie E. Bolden Publications Award , and the Law Library Advocate Award.

Two awards, the Bethany J. Ochal Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession and the Connie E. Bolden Publications Award, are awarded on an alternating biennial basis. The O. James Werner Award for Distinguished Services to Persons with Disabilities and the Law Library Advocate Award, accept nominations for consideration annually.


Awards and Recipients

  • Bethany J. Ochal Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession

    This biennial award is presented to a State, Court and County Law Libraries Special Interest Section member who has made a significant contribution to law librarianship and who is nearing the end of his or her library career or who has recently retired.
  • Connie E. Bolden Publications Award

    This biennial award is presented to a State, Court and County Law Libraries Special Interest Section member to recognize scholarly publication.
  • Werner Award for Distinguished Service to Persons with Disabilities

    The O. James Werner Award honors a member who has made a significant contribution to either serving directly or arranging for services to be provided to persons with disabilities or for distinctive service by a person with a disability.
  • Law Library Advocate

    This award, created in 2009, is presented to a law library supporter in recognition of his or her substantial contribution towards the advancement and improvement of a State, Court or County law library’s service or visibility.
