Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Librarian, University of Iowa Law Library, Iowa City, IA

The University of Iowa Law Library is seeking candidates for the position of Foreign, Comparative, and International Law Librarian.  Duties of this position include:   foreign, comparative, and international legal reference service and at least some assistance with Anglo-American legal research; selection of foreign, comparative, and international law materials in both traditional and electronic format; development of guides, bibliographies, and instructional materials to assist library users to access international, comparative, and foreign law materials; provide instruction in the areas of foreign, comparative, and international law; serve as Liaison faculty and foreign visitors to assist with research and instructional needs in foreign, comparative, and international law.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.  Excellent benefits.

Required Qualifications:  M.L.S., or foreign equivalent, or significant experience as a substitute if the candidate has a J.D. or LL.M. or foreign equivalent; library experience in providing research support in the areas of foreign, comparative, and international law as well as a working knowledge of legal research skills in Anglo-American law; working knowledge of both civil law and common law legal systems; working knowledge French, German, or Spanish; strong commitment to faculty and student research and service needs; ability to understand, utilize, and integrate electronic resources with print sources in regard to both reference and collection development efforts; excellent English language and communication skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team; evidence of self motivation and individual initiative.

Research/Conflicts Librarian (new position), Covington & Burling Law Library, Washington, D.C.

This is a new position and is part of the Covington & Burling Law Library's expansion of the conflicts/research services section.  Primary duties are to assist with the firm's conflict checking process, and to perform legal, business and law-related research as required by the Firm lawyers and paralegals.  Other duties will include working with the Electronic Services and Internet Librarian to create training programs for attorneys in the library's electronic and online services, and to help develop and maintain library pages on the firm's Intranet. Excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced legal environment.  Reports to the Assistant Librarian for Research/Conflicts Services.

Qualifications:
-Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school
-Law firm experience preferred
-Demonstrated competence in legal and business research
-Knowledge of LexisNexis, Westlaw, Dow Jones, Dialog and the Internet for legal and non-legal research required
-Understanding of database design and ability to maintain complex and comprehensive records in a computerized format.
-Ability to learn new online and Internet research tools quickly
-Experience with HTML preferred

Head of Reference and Electronic Services, Julien and Virginia Cornell Library, Vermont Law School, South Royalton, VT

Responsibilities:  Develop and provide innovative reference services programs, including a robust faculty liaison program and training for faculty, students and staff.   Provide leadership, creativity and vision to promote and support the use of technology to enhance teaching, research and library operations.  Serve as a mentor to the staff in developing their technological skills.  Supervise two professional reference librarians.  Reports to the Library Associate Director.

Requirements:  MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school and JD from an ABA-accredited law school.  Substantial experience may be substituted for either the MLS or JD degree.  Substantial reference and computer services experience.   Strong service orientation, organizational, supervisory and interpersonal skills essential.  The position is ideally suited for a computer services librarian desiring to move into an administrative role.

The University of Arkansas School of Law invites applications for the position of Cataloger and Government Documents Law Librarian.

The Law School and Library
The University of Arkansas School of Law is a fully accredited public law school in Fayetteville, Arkansas, established in 1924 with an enrollment of approximately 375 JD candidates as well as an LLM program in Agricultural Law.  The Young Law Library occupies 25,500 square feet on three floors of the building.  The collection exceeds 250,000 volume equivalents including agricultural law materials developed through the National Center for Agricultural Law Research and Information.  Although primarily intended for the use of law students and faculty, the Young Law Library also serves the legal research needs of the bench and bar of the surrounding counties, the University faculty, and the public.  The library is a depository of federal, state and United Nations documents.  The staff currently consists of five librarians, six library assistants, and two computer support persons.

Responsibilities
The Cataloger and Government Documents Librarian's responsibilities include:   original and complex copy cataloging for all formats; coordinates and maintains federal, state and United Nations documents collections; database maintenance and quality control; maintenance of departmental cataloging statistics; authority control and URL verification; training and supervision of cataloging assistant and work study students; maintain cordial working relationship with main library.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited institution.  Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces, OCLC, AACR2R, LCSH, Marcive and information technology is essential.  At least two years academic library cataloging experience preferred.   Supervisory experience preferred.  Ability to meet the requirements for promotion and tenure.
