TASK FORCE on the ABA STANDARDS FOR LAW LIBRARIES

  1. Solicit input from ALL-SIS members (through online discussions, surveys, etc.):
    • What has been the impact of electronic resources on academic law library services and collections?
    • How is the use of library services and collections by faculty, students, and law school administrators changing?
    • What must academic law libraries do differently to respond effectively to these changes in legal information, legal education, and scholarship?
    • Do the ABA Standards for Law Libraries (or the ways they are interpreted and applied in the accreditation and reaccreditation process) support innovation and encourage academic law libraries to respond effectively to changes in legal education and scholarship?
    • Do the ABA Standards for Law Libraries (or the ways they are interpreted and applied in the accreditation and reaccreditation process) hinder innovation or prevent academic law libraries from responding effectively to changes in legal education and scholarship?
  2. Compile findings for the ALL-SIS Executive Board before June 1, 2007.
    • Recommend ways the ABA Standards for Law Libraries could be interpreted differently or changed to support innovation and help academic law libraries respond effectively to changes in legal education and scholarship.
    • Recommend new measures/benchmarks of services, collections, budgets, and staffing for the ABA Annual Questionnaire that would demonstrate how academic law libraries effectively meet the changing needs of legal education and scholarship.
