MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRBy Ruth J. Hill, 2000-2001 ALL-SIS Chair Welcome to the start of another outstanding year for ALL-SIS! I want thank each of you for the opportunity to serve you as your Chair for 2000-01. I look forward to working with the wonderful group of officers, committee chairs and volunteers during the coming year. Also, I want to thank Tory Trotta for the great job she did as our Chair last year! Tory laid the groundwork for the revitalization of our Section. I want to continue on that path, pushing our Section as a forum responsive to the needs and issues of those working in an academic setting. In order for the Section to grow and to accomplish its goals, we need the input of all its members. Last spring I put out a call for volunteers. The response was terrific! The 2000-01 committees have been appointed and the volunteers are already at work. If for some reason your response got lost or you haven't been contacted, there is still a place for you to work. ALL-SIS needs you! Dwight King, education chair for 2000, and his committee have submitted an excellent package of program proposals for the Minneapolis Meeting in 2001. A report of which programs were accepted by AMPSC will be given in the next issue of the newsletter. Vice-Chair, Rosalie Sanderson and Tim Coggins, new chair of the education committee, are hard at work planning programs for the 2002 meeting. So if you have ideas or suggestions, please contact Rosalie or Tim. One of the "old chestnuts" still roasting in the fire is a strategic plan for the Section. A new committee has been formed to work on this issue. Larry Myers will chair this effort. Additionally, the Public Relations Committee, chaired by Bonnie Koneski-White, is working on producing a new Section brochure. These two initiatives are paramount to our efforts of increasing our membership and plotting the course of the Section to meet the needs of the membership. I hope that each of you who had the opportunity to attend the Annual Meeting had an exciting and challenging time in Philadelphia. Our section presented a wonderful array of educational programs and roundtables. We had something for everyone. Of particular note was the presentation by the CONALL Committee. The "dramatic" production, "Alice in Libraryland", by the Definitely Not Ready for Prime Time ALL-SIS Players, received raved reviews! The play generated a lot of discussion as information about the environment in which academic librarians work was presented to new members of our section. (Many of the "seasoned" members of our section were in attendance as well.) Kudos to Barbara Bintliff, committee chair, her committee members, and the volunteer actors for a highly informative and entertaining program. Reports of the other programs and roundtables presented in Philadelphia are printed elsewhere in this newsletter. Thanks to Paul George, education chair 1999, and his committee for their outstanding work. |
