Ellen Schaffer Foreign Librarian’s Grant Debuts
Tracy Thompson, Chair
Schaffer Grant Committee
Yale Law School

The Ellen Schaffer Foreign Librarian’s Grant has enjoyed a promising inaugural year. As you know, Ellen Schaffer, a leader and longtime member of the FCIL-SIS, made a generous $10,000 donation to establish this new grant. AALL has matched this amount to provide a $20,000 principal from which this annual grant will be funded. The Schaffer Grant will provide financial
assistance to ensure the presence and participation of foreign librarians at the AALL Annual Meeting.

The deadline for applicants this year was April 16, by which time the Schaffer Grant Committee had received over 10 applications from around the world, including China, the Philippines, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan and Norway. The Committee will select a recipient by May 1 and we will welcome the inaugural grant recipient to Minneapolis in July. Help us spread the word about this new grant opportunity and watch for next year’s application!
