Job Posting: LAW REFERENCE LIBRARIAN (Foreign/International Specialist), LEGAL RESEARCH CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Public Services reference team, provides general and specialized
research and reference services to all LRC patrons using both traditional and
computer-assisted legal resources. Serves as the foreign and international law
specialist within the reference team. Provides training and instruction in the
use of legal research tools in all formats. As assigned, produces bibliographies
and research, orientation, and informational guides for use of LRC patrons;
assists in development, evaluation, implementation, and revision of Public Services
research tools, policies and procedures. Gives tours of the LRC. Surveys LRC
collections to assist in collection development, especially foreign and international
resources. Supervises part-time student assistants. Takes on and oversees projects
as assigned.
Qualifications: M.L.S. degree from ALA-accredited library school; J.D. degree from ABA-accredited law school; law library experience (academic setting strongly preferred); knowledge of traditional legal research methods and legal reference work; knowledge of all forms of information technology used in legal research and instruction; interest in specializing in foreign and international law research; strong interpersonal skills; strong problem-solving ability; excellent organizational, verbal and writing skills; teaching ability; initiative and aptitude for planning and development.
Knowledge of international and foreign law resources and research methods; supervisory experience; public services experience ; knowledge of LANs (local area networks), Innovative Interfaces library automation system, and software applications such as WordPerfect and QuattroPro; knowledge of web site creation and maintenance applications; knowledge of at least one foreign language with emphasis on reading legal texts preferred.

Range: Minimum $50,000, depending upon qualifications
