International Criminal Court Internship: An intern is required to start as soon as possible in the International Criminal Court (ICC) Library for a 6 month period in 2004. The Library is located in the Registry. Please refer to the Internship programme on the ICC website. The candidate should have the following required qualifications: Postgraduate qualifications in library science or in the process of completing such qualifications. These qualifications are usually referred to as Masters in Library Science (MLS) or Masters in Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent postgraduate diploma. Library science students wishing to gain field experience as part of their course component are welcome to apply. Field of expertise: law librarianship and information technology. Interest in international law, particularly international criminal law and legal research. Desirable: Cataloguing and classification experience AND reference and research experience ALSO Web design experience. Bilingualism (French and English) would be an asset, otherwise, some working knowledge of the language (either French or English) which is not the first language of the candidate is required. The intern will be mentored by the Librarian and the Technical Services Librarian. Shared accommodation (all inclusive) for 500 euros a month is available. The Court will pay a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros to cover the costs of living in The Hague.


JOB DESCRIPTION: Within the limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Undertakes cataloguing and classification under the direction of the Technical Services Librarian; Assists the Librarian with providing a reference service to members of the Court; Assists the Librarian and Technical Services Librarian with library projects such as: Managing retrospective barcoding and tattle-taping; Bibliographic research including collection development; Draft reports, correspondence, grant applications to solicit donations; Development of the intranet/internet; Organisation of UN Documents; Knowledge Centre database projects.

Reference/International Law Librarian: Florida International University, Miami's public research university, is one of America's most dynamic universities and has strong international programs. The College of Law enrolled an inaugural class with strong academic qualifications in August 2002 and its request for provisional approval of its J.D. program is pending with the ABA. Its curriculum emphasizes international and comparative law, and several of its faculty have active research agendas in these topics.

The FIU College of Law Library seeks a full-time Reference/International Law Librarian specializing in international, foreign and comparative law. This librarian will provide reference, research and instructional services to law faculty and students, the FIU community and the public. The International Law Librarian will work with the Director of International and Comparative Law Programs and other professors on research projects, on inclusion of international law into every course taught, and on developing the Law Library's international collection.

Spanish language preferred (or French, Italian, or Portuguese language) ability and an M.L.S. or J.D. degree are required. Dual degrees and prior legal reference experience are preferred. See the full position description.
