Outside of the Convention Center: Boston and Beyond

Want to find out more about Boston and New England? Check out the Boston 2004 Local Advisory Committee webpage.

FCIL Librarians from New England pass on Boston sightseeing tips:

Silke Sahl: I love Schoenhof's bookstore in Harvard Square. I like the whale watching tour in Boston and the Freedom Trail.

Annette Demers: For a great, hearty and cheap Indian lunch buffet, try Cafe of India. 52A Brattle Street, Harvard Square (617) 661-0683. For only around $7.00 you have a wonderful all you can eat buffet that includes the soup of the day (always a unique and delightful choice), an appetizer, and four or five main dish Indian stews including several vegetarian selections. You also get rice and nan bread. The restaurant has a terrific Indian atmosphere and great service.

Stephanie Burke: The Helmand restaurant (143 1st Street, Cambridge, 617-492-4646) near the Cambridge Side Galleria and Lechmere T stop featuring Afghan cuisine. The Helmand boasts a very large vegetarian menu as well as many lamb and beef dishes. The atmosphere is comfortable, not too loud and the service is good, too.
