Supreme Court of the Philippines

Mrs. Milagros Santos-Ong is currently the Director of Libraries of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. She has devoted her thirty years of library experience to the field of law librarianship, as a librarian at the University of the Philippines, College of Law Library from April 1973 until 1983, when she began at the Supreme Court where she still works.

In the year 2000, she decided to share both her education and experience in the field of law librarianship by accepting an invitation to be a Lecturer at the College of Law, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and at the University of the Philippines Institute of Library Science where she is teaching Legal Research and Bibliography and Advance Legal Research. Last semester, she taught at the University of the East Graduate School.

Mrs. Ong obtained her degrees from the University of the Philippines: Bachelor of Laws (1986), Master of Library Science (1977) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1973). She also obtained a Master of Arts in Information Science from the University of Sheffield in England (1982) as a British Council, Colombo Grant scholar. As a grantee of a Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme Training/Scholarship (1992), she visited government, university and law association libraries in Malaysia.

Mrs. Ong has been invited to speak by library associations in the Philippines, institutions and the Congress of South East Asian Librarians. She has published several articles, including “Copyright and Libraries: Updates on Issues and Challenges” in International Information & Library Review, vol. 33 (2001).

Additionally, Mrs. Ong is active in several library associations in the Philippines. She is currently the Adviser of the Court Librarians Association of the Philippines, and the Philippine Group of Law Librarians. She was the President of the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (2002), Philippine Group of Law Librarians (1995- 2001) and Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (1999).
