Module 1: Processing U.S. Documents

More About Claims

All claims must be postmarked within 60 days from receipt of the shipping list
GPO retains only 20 copies of publications to fill claims
If GPO runs out of copies, your claim form will be returned stamped "claims copies exhausted"
Libraries may claim a replacement copy of a defective publication or document (discard the defective copy AFTER the claim copy is received)
GPO will sometimes ask depositories to return defective publications or destroy publications sent in error
The publishing agency may need the defective copies in order to furnish correct ones
Prompt compliance is necessary

For further thought:

Under GPO guidelines, the Depository Coordinator is required to sign every claim. Why?
