Module 2: Maintaining The Depository Collection

Selection: Item Update Cycle

Depository Coordinators conduct a "zero based review" of their libraries' selections every year. This insures that

  • the library's records agree with GPO's
  • materials no longer of use are deselected
  • materials of potential use are identified and selected
Use the Item Lister to find out what GPO has recorded as your library's selections. Item Lister is updated weekly and is available online, at:

http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fdlp/tools/itemlist.html

The Documents Coordinator can delete items at any time, but must still retain all previous issues of the deleted publication for the five-year period. Changes to selections are made online only, using the Amendment of Item Selections form on the FDLP webpage, at:

http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fdlp/tools/amendment.html

Additions to the library's previous selections are allowed ONLY during the annual update cycle. Note the following timetable:
 June 1Selection Update Cycle begins
 June-JulyDepository libraries evaluate selections
July 31 Deadline for submission of all additions
Oct. 1New selection profiles become effective. Drops are activated immediately.
