Preservation and Storage
Diskettes:
Never write directly on diskettes
Use labels for call numbers and ownership stamps
House diskettes so that they can't be bent, scratched, or crushed
Do not expose to dust and temperature fluctuations
Make backup copies of diskettes and store the copies separately
Avoid contact with magnetic desensitizers, which erase information on diskettes
Compact Disks:

Place labels for call numbers and ownership stamps on the accompanying jewel boxes, but be sure not to separate CDs from their boxes
Use
compact disk circle labels
specifically designed for affixing information directly to CDs
Scratches and other surface blemishes can ruin CDs Handle them with care
Save documentation containing product descriptions, setup instructions, and instructions for use. Ensure that patrons have access to the documentation
