- GPO assigns each executive
department and agency, the judiciary, the Congress, and other major independent
establishments a place in the scheme.
- The alphabetical
designation assigned to agency or branch of government is usually based on the
first letter or letters of the agency name. Here, GPO uses L for the Labor Department.
- The "2" in the example represents the subagency of the
Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

uses the figure "1" for the parent organization and the secretary's or administrator's
