The Value of the
Corporate Law Librarian
The PLL/SIS Corporate Law Librarians' Group is made up of librarians who
function in a corporate environment, rather than a law firm environment.
The group meets once a year at the AALL Annual Meeting and conducts the
rest of its business by letter, telephone and e-mail.
The PLL/SIS Corporate Law Librarians' Group began informally about 1986
when Peggy Butler of New York Life Insurance Company gathered colleagues
together during the annual meeting to discuss common problems and
concerns. These original meetings were held on an ad hoc basis and were
not announced in the programs. About 1990, they started having more
"official" meetings, which were announced in the program and usually
coincided with those of PLL's other groups. The topics for discussion
usually come from ideas generated by members prior to the meeting and
from concerns which come up during the roundtble.
DIRECTORY: The group has a directory of members. Currently, the
directory is based only on members who have attended the meetings and
submitted their names and addresses during annual meetings, or people
who have contacted the chair for inclusion. Feedback from the corporate
group indicates that the directory is used by the membership and that
annual revisions continue to be an important priority for the group.
