PLL Proudly Announces VIPs and Luncheon Speaker for July 2008 AALL Meeting

PLL proudly announces its VIPs for the July 2008 AALL meeting in Portland. Two active members of the Legal Marketing Association have accepted invitations to be PLL's "Valuable Invited Participants."

  • Kevin McMurdo, the Chief Marketing Officer of Perkins Coie LLP and former President of the LMA, will be our luncheon speaker on Sunday July 13th.
  • Rachael Loper, the Industry Teams Manager at Nixon Peabody LLP and the Chair of LMA's Strategic Alliances Committee, will be our guest for the entire program attending our meetings and social functions.

PLL's Competitive Intelligence Group facilitated this collaboration between PLL and the Legal Marketing Association for this year’s annual AALL meeting. Special thanks go to Jan M. Rivers, Competitive Intelligence Liaison at Dorsey & Whitney LLP and PLL's Liaison to the LMA, and to Barbara Holt, the library director at Perkins Coie LLP.

About Kevin McMurdo: Kevin McMurdo is currently the Chief Marketing Officer of Perkins Coie LLP and has been working in the legal marketing/client relations industry for over 20 years. He has worked both as an independent consultant and as a director of client relations within law firms. Kevin is well versed on what and where the demands can be when researching a firm’s reply to a request for a proposal and how to use the resources at his disposal most effectively. In his current position he is responsible for his firm’s business development efforts and providing training and counsel to attorneys on practice development. Kevin has participated as a presenter for IOMA’s Best Practices in Law Firm Marketing and Business Development audio conferences, and was a headliner at the 2006 ALM Chief Marketing Officers Forum. He is also a former president of the Legal Marketing Association. He obtained his law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School and is a member of the Oregon bar.

About Rachael Loper: In an industry that depends on people and relationships, Rachael Loper is a people person par excellence. With more than a dozen years of experience in the legal field, she understands the critical role of client service in creating competitive success. By working for both vendors and law firms, she knows that client satisfaction depends on clear expectations and effective service. Part of her success comes from a mastery of information technology allowing her to track, connect and coordinate key contacts across the legal space. Rachael is currently the Manager of Industry Teams at Nixon Peabody LLP in their Washington, D.C. office. Prior to going in-house, she was the Director of Marketing and Business Development at Greenfield/Belser, the leading design firm for the legal industry, and before that, she spent many years at Legal Times, an American Lawyer Media publication. She is the author of “It’s All About Who Knows Whom,” published in the March 2008 issue of ILTA’s Marketing Technologies magazine. Rachael is also the Chair of LMA's Strategic Alliances Committee, which is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with other legal services organizations. She is the Chair of LMA's Strategic Alliances Committee responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with other legal services organizations.

AALL Leadership Academy

Why do private law firm, corporate legal department and independent law librarians need to be leaders?

» to be outstanding librarians
» to maximize the benefits of information to the firm/corporation and their clients
» to establish the library/information center as a core function within the organization
» to mainstream our expertise
» to maintain job satisfaction and growth

Do you have to be a manager to be a leader? No - all aspects of a profession need leadership skills. PLL encourages our newer librarians to apply to this AALL conference. A very reasonable $150 covers registration, materials, meals and lodging for two nights. PLL hopes the be able to offer a travel grant - look for this application in a future announcement.
