The Advanced Cataloging Workshop will be held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle on July 11-12, 2003. A top-rate faculty will guide attendees through the challenges of advanced cataloging issues. This is the third in a series of cataloging workshops that the Professional Development Committee has sponsored to meet technical services requests for continuing education. The first two workshops, Basic Cataloging and Intermediate Cataloging, attracted large audiences and favorable reviews. See http://aallnet.org/prodev/03-w2.asp for more information.
The conference hotels that have been selected for the Annual Meeting are the same ones available for workshop housing and should be available at the same conference rates. AALL staff confirm there are early blocks of rooms at the Crowne Plaza, The Days Inn, the Sixth Avenue Inn and a few rooms at the Sheraton. The Sheraton is the hotel closest to the Convention Center, but all the hotels are a comfortable walking distance from the convention facility. If you are having any problems securing a reservation, you can contact Pam Reisinger or Heidi Letzmann at AALL for more assistance.
Please review the following for the classification portion of the Workshop:
Dr. Goldberg's schedules and her related works:
Please read the prefaces to her schedules: Catalogers' Desktop, Library of Congress Classification Preface.
You may also want to read some of Dr. Joldberg's articles (there are more if you have time):
Since many of Dr. Goldberg's schedules interact with Class K, you might want to review that also.
You DO NOT need to bring the schedules to the workshop.
The following readings are good preparation for the descriptive cataloging portions of the Workshop:
Members of the Technical Services, Online Bibliographic Services, Research Instruction and Patron Services and Computing Services Special Interest Sections are invited to the Joint Reception, Saturday, July 12, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, 35th Floor Cirrus Room. The reception is sponsored by Innovative Interfaces, Inc.
