2008-2009 Vice-Chair/Chair Elect Annual Report

In the fall of 2008 year, I participated in the Task Force on the Annual Survey, chaired by Joe Thomas. The task force’s report was submitted at the end of January and it recommended that the volunteer form and the solicitation of program ideas be completely separate from the survey. The Executive Board subsequently decided that the survey should focus solely on evaluating TS-SIS activities and that it should be conducted on a non-annual basis. The frequency of the survey, however, has not yet been decided.

My primary activity this year involved making appointments to the various TS-SIS committees and offices for 2009/2010. As of this date, appointments have been made for the Education Committee (chaired by Carol Avery Nicholson), the Cataloging and Classification chair (George Prager), the Serials Committee (Shyama Agrawal), the Joint Research Grant Committee representative (Paddy Satzer), and the TSLL Board representative (Jim Mumm). I have recently received a commitment from Sean Chen to continue as Membership Committee chair and from 3 other people to serve on the Awards Committee. I still have work to do in compiling the Nominations Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Development and hope to make some headway before the annual meeting.

The 2010 Education Committee has met and is currently working on 5-6 proposals for the Denver meeting.
