Education Committee
2008-2009 Annual Report
Karen B. Douglas, Chair
The Committee had great success with the proposals that were submitted to the AMPC this year. Four of our program proposals and our workshop proposal were accepted. In addition, TS-SIS will also be sponsoring 3 programs and a "TS-SIS Hot Topic" Session.
Our workshop: "Managing From the Middle: Techniques for Success in Technical Services, "was accepted by AMPC as a one day workshop. Other AMPC selected programs that we will either sponsor or co-sponsor are as follows:
- "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow? The Future of Print Periodicals in Law Libraries"
- "Taking the Aggravation Out of Aggregators: An Update on Aggregator-Neutral Bibliographic Records" (co-sponsored with OBS-SIS)
- "Here's to Your (Digital Archive's) Good Health! Auditing and Evaluating Digital Preservation Projects"
- "Next-Gen Integrated Library System (ILS) Features Relevant to the Private Law Firm Library" (co-sponsored with PLL-SIS)
Four other programs will be sponsored by TS-SIS:
- "Redefining Work Roles in Response to Changing Collection Environments"
- "Peer Collaboration"
- "Cataloging Video Recordings"
- TS-SIS Hot Topic: "Working with OCLC'S Record Transfer Policy" This program will be held on Tues. July 2 7 from 12:00 -1:15 PM. Included among the program speakers is Roberta Shaffer, who is a member of the OCLC Review Board of Shared Data Creation & Stewardship. The program was suggested by Phoebe Ruiz-Valera, Technical Services Librarian at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, LLP.
I would like to thank my Committee Members: Ajaye Bloomstone, Sean Chen, Miriam Childs, Marilyn Estes, Brandi Ledferd, Carol Nicholson and Karen Nuckolls, for their tireless efforts to provide quality TS programming for this year's Annual Meeting.
