Committee on Exchange of Duplicates
2006-2007 Annual Report

New Orleans, Louisiana — July 2007

[Web Site Manager's Note: Topics for disucssion (8 KB PDF) at the annual meeting are also available.]

The 2006/07 serials exchange of duplicates took place in December 2006 and in June 2007. Forty-two libraries participated, which is a decrease of 6 libraries from last year. Of the 42 participating libraries, 37 submitted a list of duplicates to include in the exchange. The total number of issues offered in the fall was 9,649. The total number of issues offered in the spring was 12,003.

At the 2006 annual meeting in St. Louis, it was recommended that the exchange take place twice a year instead of once a year. In response, an exchange took place last fall. Participants responded positively, so the exchange will now take place semi-annually rather than annually.

Each time the exchange takes place, new titles are added to the authority list. It currently contains 2,073 titles. Several of the titles were suggested by previous and current participants. Other titles were obtained from the serials section of Technical Services Law Librarian.

The most popular titles offered in the June 2007 exchange in order of frequency were ABA Journal, Harvard Law Review, Journal of Legal Education, Yale Law Journal, Columbia Law Review, Law Library Journal, AALL Spectrum, California Lawyer, Michigan Law Review, and Texas Law Review.

One improvement made this year was additional download links to the master list. The master list was available online, in a PDF format, and in an Excel format. A secondary list, comprised of titles not in the authority list, was also available online and in a PDF format.

Thanks to all who participated in the exchange and to the computer programmers at Brigham Young University.

Respectfully submitted,
