The Archives of the AALL are a valuable resource for scholarly research on the development of Librarianship. They consist of source and primary materials.

AALL archival material includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Historical incorporation, organizational papers of American Association of Law Libraries
  • Constitution and by-laws - present and superseded texts
  • Reports of Officers, Board, Committee Chairs and Commissions to which AALL has (had) delegates
  • President - correspondences and edited documents
  • Executive Board - edited and approved agendas and minutes
  • Financial - budgets, treasurer's reports, investment records, audits, tax exemptions
  • Chapters - constitutions and by-laws
  • SIS - constitutions and by-laws
  • SIS and standing committee reports
  • Special Committees - all external correspondence and internal papers
  • Procedural Handbooks/Manuals - with dates of emendations
  • Convention - final programs, reports, financial statements; CONELL reports; convention education workshop reports
  • Lists of Scholarship, Grant and Award recipients Law Library Journal - contracts and business records

The AALL Archives are administered by the University Archives and are subject to restrictions mutually determined by the AALL Archives Liaison and Joyce Meyer.

The University provides professional supervision by their University Archivist who has the responsibility of selecting records having long-term value, organizing those records and processing and preserving them. The Archivist also prepares descriptive finding aides and advises researchers.
