AALL Consulting Services Webinar

DESCRIPTION


During this webinar, we will introduce a new pilot project, AALL Consulting Services. The pilot aims to connect law schools, law firms, and government agencies with highly qualified law librarians who can provide expertise for strategic projects. Immediate Past President Femi Cadmus will explain the initiativeís strategic goals, the application process for members, and how member-consultants will be matched with clients. Then, members Marcia Burris, Mark Estes, and Billie Jo Kaufman will discuss their own prior consulting engagements in the law firm, government, and academic sectors, respectively. Participants are encouraged to ask questions during the Q&A section.

This event is open to members and nonmembers. Registration closes on April 27.

PANELIST INFORMATION


Speakers

Femi Cadmus is the Archibald C. and Frances Fulk Rufty Research Professor of Law, Associate Dean of Information Services and Technology, and Director of the Michael J. Goodson Library. Her three decades professional career in law libraries spans both academic and law firm libraries where she has taught legal research and analysis, and law practice technology to law students and attorneys. Her research focus, publications and presentations cover topics such as law and technology, the evolving role of the modern-day law library, open access to legal information, and law library management and administration. Cadmus is active in regional and national library associations including the American Association of Law Libraries in which she is immediate Past President.

Mark Estes is the principal of Infopro Consulting and also a part-time reference librarian at the University of San Diego Legal Research. He has directed academic, large law firm and county law libraries. From 2008 through 2018 he directed the Alameda County Law Library; before that he directed law library services for the multi-offices Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (now Brian Cave Leighton Paisner LLP). At Holme Roberts & Owen LL, he provided library consulting services to the firmís clients. Heís a former editorial director of AALL Spectrum, an AALL President, chair PLL (Now PLLIP) and has written and spoken extensively about law library management.

Billie Jo Kaufmann is Law Librarian Emerita at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). She served as the Associate Dean for Library & Information Resources overseeing all library services and collections from 2003 - 2019. Prior to joining AUWCL, Billie Jo was Director of the Law Library & Technology Center and Associate Professor of Law at Shepard Broad Law Center, Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she held several positions within the law library system from 1987 until 2003.

Billie Jo is currently serving as the Interim Library Director at Mercer Law School in Macon, Georgia and continues her membership in the ABA, the AALL, AALS, SEALS, and the Southeast Association of Law Libraries. At Mercer, Billie Jo teaches Legal Writing and Introduction to Legal Research. She continues her service to the ABA as a site visitor and routinely provides consulting services to law libraries and law schools on matters relating to library services and collections; facilities; and information technology.

Marcia Burris is the Director of Research and Knowledge Management at Nexsen Pruet, LLC, where her role encompasses research services and firm information infrastructure and strategy. Based in Greenville, South Carolina, Marcia enables access to internal and external information sources for Nexsen Pruetís more than 200 professionals in eight offices throughout the Carolinas. Prior to joining Nexsen Pruet, Marcia worked with HBR Consulting as a Senior Consultant in Research and Information Services. Marcia has presented and written on many topics related to library management and legal research resource optimization, including webinars and presentations at annual meetings of the American Association of Law Libraries, the Private Law Librarians and Information Professionals SIS, and the International Legal Technology Association.
