We are living through unprecedented times, where most interactions now occur through virtual environments. Without in-person programming and outreach with our users, our work can feel at times as if it exists in the abstract and disconnected from our colleagues and community. As we say goodbye to 2020, with no end to zoom fatigue in sight, it’s more important than ever to consider whether we are reaching and connecting with our users. So, how do we measure whether we are connecting with our users? What tools best create community in a virtual environment? How do we maintain a connection with our users without time with them in person?
In this So You Wanna…? session, we will speak with Jessica Almeida and Nicole Dyszlewski on how they successfully adapted their libraries’ programming to a virtual environment. Jessica, an Associate Librarian at UMass School of Law, implemented a variety of fun projects to get students engaged through social media, and Nicole, Head of Reference, Instruction, and Engagement at Roger Williams University School of Law, increased student engagement in her online classes. We hope their expertise and know-how will provide relevant and applicable takeaways for your library as they provide us with tips and tricks you can use to increase user engagement and build community remotely.
