Privacy & User Data Collection

Thursday, September 27, 2018 (11am - 12pm US/Central)

Libraries collect data on users, from who they are to what they do as they interact with the library and its services, and utilize that data for various purposes. The advent of technology allows tracking on an entirely new scale and brings with it concerns about user privacy. Are those concerns universal? Are all libraries affected in the same way? How can librarians think constructively and proactively about best practices about what data they collect, what they do with it and how long they keep it? This webinar will open participants to ideas of user privacy and organizational priorities to enable them to discover the privacy concerns relevant to their own institution.

Attendees will learn:
ē how to assess the institutionís individual privacy concerns (legal, ethical, and proprietary factors)
ē how to weigh the data collection and applicable privacy concerns to craft a framework for data collection and retention
