Heather on making a difference in the profession
Heather Casey is the International & Foreign Law Reference Librarian at Georgetown University Law Library in Washington, DC.
Why did you join AALL?
It’s the best way to meet other law librarians and get involved with the profession. I wanted to make a difference as quickly as I could so joining a professional organization was the best way to do that.
Why do you stay a member?
AALL has provided me with the opportunity to meet so many great people and to participate in so many wonderful events. From my involvement in AALL, I’ve been able to get involved in special interests groups, regional chapters, IALL, and am now on the AMPC, which is a huge honor. I’m thrilled and humbled that I’ve been permitted to participate in so many different activities and I can’t imagine not being a part of it.
What one membership benefit is most valuable to you?
The people. Hands down.
What is your favorite memory associated with AALL?
Am I allowed to say late night soirees at the annual meetings? If not that, then it’s obviously the early morning business meetings. Everyone loves those.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Cooking, being outdoors, repairing whatever damage our rabbit has inflicted on our house, dining out with friends, curling up with a good book and some wine…going to book club, because of course I’m in a book club.
What book(s) are you currently reading?
Just finished Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates which was fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone. I’m currently reading My Brilliant Friend because I feel like everyone is talking about the Neopolitan books right now.
What’s your favorite travel/vacation destination?
Paris. Though I will also be very happy with a staycation in my pajamas.
