STEVEN ON HIS FAVORITE AALL MEMORY & WHAT HE VALUES MOST ABOUT HIS MEMBERSHIP
Steven R. Probst is Head of Public Services at the University of Arkansas School of Law Robert A. Leflar Law Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
WHY DID YOU JOIN AALL?
I joined AALL at the suggestion of some helpful colleagues and mentors that I had in my first library position who told me what an important resource it would be in my new career. They were right!
WHY DO YOU STAY A MEMBER?
AALL membership has been invaluable to me over the years in terms of my professional development as a law librarian. AALL provides networking opportunities with other law librarians and legal information professionals, essential resources, and advocates for me as a law librarian and the interests of the libraries I have worked in.
WHAT ONE MEMBER BENEFIT IS MOST VALUABLE TO YOU?
The AALL Annual Meeting & Conference comes to mind for the networking and educational opportunities it provides, but I also appreciate AALL’s publications and online resources that I use and enjoy (including Law Library Journal, AALL’s Salary Survey, and KnowItAALL).
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY ASSOCIATED WITH AALL?
My first AALL Annual Meeting took place in Seattle in 2003. I remember coming away from that meeting feeling really energized and excited to be part of my newly chosen profession. Seattle was pretty cool too.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Other than spending time with my wife and two boys, I have become obsessed with road cycling. I participate in organized team rides three or four days per week and recently completed my first century ride (100 miles).
WHAT BOOK(S) ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
Billy Summers by Stephen King, and a biography about Johnny Cash (Johnny Cash: The Life by Robert Hilburn).
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL/VACATION DESTINATION?
Northern Michigan, but don’t tell anyone. It’s a well-kept secret just how beautiful it is up there.
