Conferences offer unparalleled opportunities to network and stay on top of trends in the profession. You don't need to wait until July, though, to take part in other educational activities from AALL. You might wish to register for the upcoming February or March webinars or watch the very interesting AALL2go Pick of the Month. Another way to network with colleagues and find out more about information policy is to become involved with AALL's advocacy efforts.

Whatever your professional interests are, AALL provides you valuable ways to connect and learn.

Registration Now Open for the 2014 AALL Annual Meeting

The warmth of Texas is just a few clicks away - registration is open for the 107th Annual Meeting and Conference in San Antonio! Last week you should have received a personalized email announcing the official opening, including your member ID number, which you'll need to obtain member-discounted pricing. Did you know that deeply discounted registration rates are available for students and retirees, too? Also, spread the word to your nonmember colleagues: Nonmember Conference Registration packages include a complimentary one-year AALL membership. By joining us in San Antonio, they'll be joining AALL!

Check out the fantastic lineup of educational opportunities - including the keynote address by Andrew Keen - and start building your schedule for San Antonio. Stay tuned for more details about the return of the wildly popular Monday Morning Recharge, as well as programming developed in collaboration with related partner associations. And we want to hear from you, too! Calls for hot topics, posters sessions, and coffee talks are now open.

This year's Exhibit Hall will be buzzing with the latest tools to keep you at the top of your game. We're setting the stage with Association events that include the Saturday Opening Reception, a complimentary attendee lunch in the Exhibit Hall and member appreciation event on Monday, and the Association Luncheon on Tuesday.

Make a Difference - Run for AALL Office

AALL is looking for the next leaders of the Association. If you or someone you know has proven leadership experience, commitment to law librarianship, and the demonstrated ability to think strategically, please consider serving on the AALL Executive Board.

The Nominations Committee is asking members to nominate individuals for the 2014 AALL Executive Board election. The committee is looking for strong candidates for the position of vice president/president-elect and two Executive Board members. The election will be held in November for terms beginning in July 2015.

If you or someone you know is ready to serve on the AALL Executive Board, let the Nominations Committee know. The chair of this year's committee is Joyce Manna Janto of the University of Richmond School of Law Library. You can email her your nomination. The committee is accepting nominations through March 5.

AALL Members Take Action on "The Day We Fight Back"

Our thanks to the many AALL members around the country who took action in support of the USA FREEDOM Act (S. 1599, H.R. 3361) as part of The Day We Fight Back campaign held February 11! House and Senate offices reported an influx of constituent calls and messages in support of this important surveillance reform bill, which gained several new co-sponsors from the effort.

The USA FREEDOM Act is a bipartisan, bicameral bill that would limit government surveillance authority by amending the USA PATRIOT Act and FISA Amendments Act of 2008 to better protect Americans' privacy. The bill also requires greater oversight, transparency, and accountability with respect to those domestic surveillance authorities which expand surveillance on library users.

If you haven't yet taken action, you can still ask your members of congress to co-sponsor the USA FREEDOM Act using our Legislative Action Center. If your members have already signed on, the same site will instead prompt you to customize and send a note of thanks for their support of this important reform.

Registration for Librarian in the Know: Copyright for Private Law Librarians closes February 24

Registration closes on February 24 for AALL's February webinar, Librarian in the Know: Copyright for Private Law Librarians. Do you want to increase your library's visibility and provide a valuable service to the firm? Join Paula Cozzi Goedert, AALL's legal counsel and partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, on February 27 at 11 a.m. CST. We will cover issues such as rights a copyright holder can enforce, rights of licensees, derivative works and who owns them, fair use, and copyright registration requirements.

The webinar is $30 for AALL members and $60 for nonmembers, and site registration (one per physical location) is $150. Be a librarian in the know who provides a valuable service to your firm: register today.

March Webinar Registration Open - Screencasting: Adding New Tools for Reference and Research

Librarians need a good mix of tools that they can use to deliver service value. Many tools are out there for wide use, but how do you sift through the options? Join a few tech-savvy librarians, including Jane Larrington, Judith Lihosit, and Anna Russell, from the University of San Diego School of Law/Legal Research Center on March 27 at 11 a.m. CST to hear them discuss screencasting tools that can be used for virtual reference, research demos, teaching, and more. Additionally, you will learn about useful screencasting programs and screencasting tips and tricks.

The webinar is $30 for AALL members and $60 for nonmembers, and site registration (one per physical location) is $150. Register by March 24!

Members with an interest in virtual educational programming are encouraged to submit webinar proposals. Increase your professional visibility, add new skills, and contribute to the profession as a whole! Proposals should address current issues, raise important questions, or provide practical knowledge and innovative approaches that deliver results. Check out the proposal criteria here. Last Chance to Submit Your Photos and Videos for the 2014 Day in the Life Contest

The AALL Day in the Life Contest is accepting submissions through February 28. AALL members are invited to take a wide range of photographs and videos of law librarians working, meeting, teaching, and doing everything else that law librarians do in a given day. Entries must be submitted between January 1 and February 28, but your photos and videos can be from any time between March 1, 2013, and February 28, 2014.

Entries will be judged online through membership voting in April. Winners will be recognized on AALLNET, in the July issue of AALL Spectrum, and during the 2014 Annual Meeting in San Antonio. Please visit the AALL Day in the Life Contest homepage for complete contest details.

The Call for Papers is Open for the Australian Law Librarians' Association's Annual Conference

The Australian Law Librarians' Association is now accepting program proposals for its 2014 annual conference to be held September 10-12 in Adelaide, South Australia. The theme for the conference is Make the C.A.S.E.: Collaborate - Advocate - Strategise - Educate. The deadline for program proposal submission is February 28.

The Law Librarians' Society of Washington, D.C. (LLSDC) is now in its 75th year of serving the legal community. On Friday, February 28, LLSDC members will celebrate at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza in downtown Washington, D.C., for a festive evening of remembering the past and looking to the future.
