CONGRATULATIONS TO BÅRD SVERRE TUSETH! – THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2013 FCIL SCHAFFER GRANT FOR FOREIGN LAW LIBRARIANS

Bard TusethMr. Bård Sverre Tuseth is an Academic Law Librarian at the University of Oslo Library in Norway, a position he has held since 2004. Since 2010, he has served as head of the library at the Department of Public and International Law. He is responsible for collection development, reference work, and research support for the department and other faculty. He also teaches legal information literacy and practical legal skills on all levels of the five-year master program in law offered by the University of Oslo.

In 2002, Mr. Tuseth earned his law degree (Juridisk embetseksamen/Cand. Jur.) from the University of Oslo. While pursuing his degree, he held various positions at the Department of Public and International Law, working as a research assistant, and as a member of the IT staff. In addition to his current responsibilities at the University of Oslo, Mr. Tuseth has worked as a legal collection consultant for the University of Agder in Norway since 2010, and since 2011 as an assistant editor for Norges Lover, an annual publication of Norwegian statutes. From 2006 to 2010, he was part of the editorial staff for Norsk rettstidende, gazette of Norwegian Supreme Court decisions.

Since 2010, Mr. Tuseth has served on the Board of the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL), and also is the University of Oslo Law Library’s designated representative to IALL. Mr. Tuseth’s scholarly contributions include serving as co-editor of Global and Regional Treaties (2012 & 2010) and Global and European Treaties (2007) for the Department of Public and International Law at the University of Oslo. He has published articles on topics such as the challenges to law libraries because of internationalization of law (Utfordringer for Juridiske Bibliotek På Grunn Av Rettens Internasjonalisering, 2012), and academic information on the Internet (with Pål Andreas Bertnes, Faglig Informasjon På Internett – Kvalitet Og Kildekritikk: Abstrakt forlag, 2012). Most recently, Mr. Tuseth spearheaded a seminar in Oslo on practical legal skills for Norwegian law librarians, with participants from four of the six law schools in Norway.

Anticipating AALL & Returning to Norway

Mr. Tuseth looks forward to attending AALL this summer and meeting with law librarians and information professionals from all over the world. He hopes to gather fresh ideas on a variety of topics, from collection development to learning more about innovative services for law library patrons. Following the AALL Annual Meeting, Mr. Tuseth plans to publish a conference report on the University of Oslo Library’s conference blog, and bring all that he has learned back to his colleagues and to the running of the University of Oslo Library.

Presentation

Mr. Tuseth will give a talk on the topic of Nordic legislative cooperation and its impact on researching law from the area on Monday, July 15 at 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. This event is open to the entire AALL community.
