Resources

Mission

  1. Advise and make recommendations to the chair of the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee and TS-SIS Executive Board regarding AALL positions on policies and standards pertaining to Library of Congress Classification (LCC), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), and Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT).
  2. Advise and make recommendations to the AALL representative to the ALA Subject Analysis Committee (SAC) on LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT policies and standards for legal resources.
  3. Work closely with the representative(s) from the Law Library of Congress and the Library of Congress Policy and Standards Division (PSD) on LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT policies and practices for legal resources.
  4. Create and maintain best practices, policies, and guidelines pertaining to LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT for legal resources. Initiate other special projects as needed.
  5. Maintain active communication between the working group and TS-SIS members on issues pertaining to LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT for legal resources.

Reporting responsibilities

  1. Submit an annual written report of the working group's activities to the chair of the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee.
  2. Submit copies of the annual report to the TSLL newsletter editor and to the TS-SIS web manager.
  3. Give oral reports to general TS-SIS membership during the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee meeting and/or roundtable during AALL Annual Meeting.
  4. Prepare agenda for CSCAG meeting during AALL Annual Meeting.
  5. Keep chair of the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee abreast of working group's activities.

Structure

  1. Any members in good standing of TS-SIS may apply in writing to serve during a call for volunteers made by the chair of the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee.
  2. Members should include in their application a brief statement that includes their reasons for wanting to serve on this working group and how they can contribute to the group's work.
  3. Members are selected and appointed by the current chair of the working group, in consultation with the chair of the Cataloging and Classification Standing Committee and the SAC representative.

Membership Responsibilities

  1. Respond in an informed and timely manner to requests for review and feedback on proposed LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT, position papers, and any other proposals and documents.
  2. Serve actively on subgroups to develop proposed LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT for legal resources; develop best practices, policies, and guidelines pertaining to the application of LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT for legal resources; participate in group's special projects; and contribute to written reports or other documentation to be disseminated to the TS-SIS membership via postings to electronic lists, the TS-SIS website, and announcements in TSLL.
  3. Actively engage in discussions initiated by any member of the working group, and contribute to the resolution of questions and concerns referred to the working group about LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT for legal resources.
