    • Patricia Sayre-McCoy,University of Chicago D’Angelo Law Library

The Members of the 2022-2023 TS-SIS Nominations Committee were appointed to the Committee before I was approached and agreed to serve as Chair in May 2022.

The Committee had the task of finding two (2) candidates each for the positions of Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect and Member-at-Large.

An email solicitation for volunteer candidates went out on the TS My Communities email list on October 5, 2022. This email received responses from two volunteers for the Member-at-Large position. Subsequent to this, the Committee members compiled a list of potential members to contact with regards to the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect position.

After contacting a number of potential candidates, the Committee was successful in getting two candidates for Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect by the end of November, 2022. The slate of candidates for both offices was published on the TS My Communities email list on December 1, 2022.

However, shortly after the start of 2023, one of the Member-at-Large candidates ceased to respond to all requests for ballot information and the candidate was informed via email that their candidacy was withdrawn. An email soliciting a new candidate was sent out to the TS My Communities email list on February 6, 2023, and a member volunteered that same day.

The final slate of candidates for 2022-2023 was published on the TS My Communities email list on February 7, 2023:

    Vice-Chair/Chair Elect (3-year term, 2023-2026)

    • Marijah Sroczynski, Research Services Operations Manager, Morrison & Foerster LLP (NY, NY)

    • Vice-Chair/Chair Elect: Yan Yu
    • Member-at-Large: Diana Dulek

    Respectfully submitted,

    2021-2022 Annual Report

    Committee Members

    • Patricia Sayre-McCoy, Chair, D’Angelo Law Library, University of Chicago
    • Colleen Williams, University of Arkansas School of Law Robert A. Leflar Law Center

2021/2022 was a difficult year to find committee members and members willing to run for election for these open positions on the TS-SIS Executive Board: Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and Member-at-Large. Many libraries were still working remotely full-time or part-time because of Covid closures, making it difficult to contact people to ask them to run for a TS office. Colleen Williams and I worked from lists of potential candidates–suggestions from members and lists of committee chairs and members. Contacting people was difficult because it was hard to determine where and when to contact possible nominees, and I had to ask the TS Board for an extension of the final deadline for the nominations. This list is usually due Jan. 15 but I was granted an extension until Jan 31.

The final list of candidates submitted for the TS Board:

    • Vice-Chair/Chair Elect
      • Shawn King, University of Wisconsin Law Library
      • Thomas Ma, Harvard Law School Library
    • Secretary/Treasurer
      • Kevin Carey, Ohio State University Moritz law Library
      • Marijah Sroczynski, Morrison & Foerster LLP
    • Member-at-Large
      • Rachel Decker, Fowler School of Law, Chapman University
      • Yan Yu, Notre Dame Law School Kresge Library

When the elections were over, I informed the candidates who were not elected and thanked them for their willingness to run.

    Nominating Committee
    2012-2013 Annual Report

Members: Jen Richter, Chair; Cynthia Myers; Pamela Cipkowski

Not all members of the committee were able to attend the Annual Conference in Boston, so in early October the Nominations Committee resumed contact and began making a selection of possible candidates for two positions: Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, and Member-at-Large. Already a list of interested potential candidates for both offices was provided to me in June, and the committee members began contacting those on the list first. In mid-December, the committee received written acceptances from one Vice-Chair/Chair Elect candidate and one Member-at-Large candidate, and in early January another TSLL member accepted candidacy for Member-at-Large. Finding an additional Vice Chair/Chair Elect candidate proved challenging, and by the end of February the committee had contacted more than 50 members. On February 25, the committee received written acceptance of the final Vice Chair/Chair Elect candidate.

On February 28, I emailed the slate of candidates to Chair Miriam Childs along with the acceptance emails from each of the four candidates. The Executive Board approved the slate of: Suzanne Graham and Shyama Agrawal for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect; and Kathy Faust and Eric Parker for Member-at-Large. Online election via AALL was held in mid-April, with results posted to the TS list on April 29th, 2013 announcing Suzanne Graham for Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect and Eric Parker for Member-at-Large. The Committee thanks Shyama Agrawal and Kathy Faust for their willingness to be nominated.

    Respectively submitted,

    Jen Richter

  • 2011 - 2012

    Nominating Committee
    2011-2012 Annual Report

Members: Carmen Brigandi, Chair; Sarah Repinski; Jen Richter.

In late July 2011 during the AALL meeting in Philadelphia the Nominations Committee met to discuss and begin making a selection of possible candidates for three positions: Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and Member-at-Large. In late October the Committee began culling the list of candidates to find qualified members to fill the positions for the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect position. Once written acceptances for that position were received, the Committee than worked through the rest of the list to fill the other two positions with candidates.

On December 13, 2011 I emailed the slate of candidates to Chair Ismael Gullon along with the acceptance emails from each of the 6 candidates. The Executive Board approved the slate of: Michael Maben and Brian Striman for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect; Kathy Faust and Hollie White for Secretary/Treasurer; and Leigh Inman and Cindy Spadoni for Member-at-Large. Online election via AALL was held in early April, with results posted to the TS list on April 20th, 2012 announcing Brian Striman for Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect; Hollie White for Secretary/Treasurer, and Cindy Spadoni as Member-at-Large. The Committee thanks Michael Maben, Kathy Faust, and Leigh Inman for their willingness to be nominated.

Please advise next year’s Nominations Chair that I have several possible candidates for next year’s elections.

    Respectively submitted,

    Carmen Brigandi

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE
    2010-2011 ANNUAL REPORT

The Nominating Committee for 2010-2011 term consisted of Brian Striman, chair, and Sally Wambold and Paula Tejeda. The call for nominations began September 21, 2010 as posted on the TS-SIS listserv, and committee members also made phone calls striving for a fair and balanced slate of candidates for the positions of Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, and Member-at-Large. The Executive Board approved the slate of: Miriam Childs (Louisiana Supreme Court) and Manhaz Moshfegh (Indiana U.) for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect; and Richard Paone (Penn State U.) and Ann Walsh Long (Lincoln Memorial U.) in December 2010. Online election via AALL was held April 22-May 2, 2011, with results posted to the TS list by TS-SIS Secretary June 21, 2011 announcing Miriam Childs elected for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, and Richard Paone as Member-at-Large. The Nominating Committee and the TS Executive Board extends congratulations to the new officers for 2011-2012, and extends a hearty thank you to Ann and Manhaz for their willingness to have the opportunity for these leadership positions in our Section.

  • 2009 - 2010

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE
    2009-2010 ANNUAL REPORT

I was very ably assisted this year by the other two members of the Nominations committee: Cynthia May, and Carmen Brigandi. Thank you both. Together we were able to identify possible candidates for the three offices which needed to be filled this year: Vice Chair/Chair Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and Member-at-Large. Our final slate of candidates which we delivered to the TS-SIS Chair on February 2, 2010, was as follows:

    • For Vice Chair/Chair Elect:
      • Julie Stauffer
      • Ismael Gullon
    • For Secretary/Treasurer:
      • Catherine Wagar
      • Elaine Bradshaw
    • For Member at Large
      • Suzanne Graham
      • Richard Paone

We began brainstorming lists of possible candidates, using the TS-SIS survey, personal knowledge, recommendations and the TS-SIS member list, in December, but did not finalize our priority order, and begin making calls until January. We had a particularly difficult time finding candidates for the Vice Chair/Chair Elect slot. We had many well-qualified names on our list, but many of them declined to run for various reasons, mostly lack of funding/support for AALL attendance, or just too many other commitments. I believe we contacted over ten people before we had an acceptance. The Member-At-Large position was relatively easy to find candidates for, and we tried to look at newer members as possible candidates as well. The timeline for the Nominations committee in the handbook is fine, but ideally the committee should start telephoning candidates before the Christmas/New Year’s break. It’s hard to get all the calls made, and wait for responses in the two first weeks of January, which is why we delivered our slate of candidates late. If the incoming Chair would like to have a list of names that we considered/called to pass on to the new Nominations Committee I do so. Such a list would have been helpful to us this year.

    Respectfully submitted,
    Elizabeth Geesey Holmes
    Chair

  • 2008 - 2009

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE
    2008-2009 ANNUAL REPORT

A committee was formed and brainstorming was done to come up with potential candidates for the following positions on the TS-SIS Executive Board: Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect and Member at Large. Messages soliciting nominations were sent out on the TS-SIS and the SCCLL-SIS listservs.

Librarians for each position were identified and contacted, and two individuals agreed to run for each position. Their names were submitted to the SIS Chair on January 5, 2009. In late January, a new candidate’s name was submitted for one of the positions, as one of the librarians had withdrawn.

The election was held in April. Candidates for the office of Vice-Chair and Chair-Elect were Miriam Childs (Law Library of Louisiana) and Pam Deemer (Emory University). Candidates for Member-at-Large were Katrina Piechnik (Jenkins Law Library) and Barbara Henigman (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign).

The following officers were elected: Pam Deemer, Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, and Katrina Piechnik, Member-at-Large.

    Ismael Gullon
    Linda Tesar
