Description
The Excellence in Marketing Award honored outstanding achievement in public relations activities by an individual, group of individuals, library, chapter, special interest section, consortium, caucus, or any other group affiliated with the Association.
Public relations is a critical responsibility of nearly every member of the library profession. It is important to recognize and acknowledge outstanding contributions achieved by law librarians in raising the visibility of the profession and its Association.
Categories
- Best Brochure: Entries in this category were in the form of a paper or electronic brochure that addressed some or all of the following: features—a description of a product, service, or library; benefits—a description of its benefits to its patrons or audience; people—a description of the people behind the product or service; purpose—addressed the question of what the audience should do or learn after reading the brochure.
- Best Newsletter: A printed or electronic newsletter, pamphlet, or small newspaper that contained news or information of interest chiefly to a special group or audience.
- Best Campaign: A campaign could be a single promotional activity organized, or a series of related promotions conducted, during the course of the year. Law Day, National Library Week, Special International Librarians’ Day, Legislative Day, etc., fell under this category, as well as any other distinct program organized by an institution, such as a firm-wide Quality Day or Annual Festival of Legal Learning.This category also includes, but was not limited to, any of the following: exhibits organized by any AALL member, committee, special interest section, caucus, consortia, or chapter, etc., held at an annual meeting or conference such as a state bar meeting, legal administrator’s conference, chapter institutes, or AALL Annual Meeting.
- Best PR ToolKit: This category required a combination of at least three promotional items. They may have consisted of any of the following: maps, audio/video tapes, bibliographies, library/research guides, annual reports, brochures, procedural manuals, newsletters, pathfinders, handbooks, surveys, bookmarks, cartoons, banners, calendars, or magnets.
- Best Use of Technology: Entries in this category have applied and used digital or electronic technology as a vehicle for promotion and marketing of a library, chapter, special interest section, or group of individuals affiliated with the Association or chapter. The quality of the product is important, but the emphasis is on how this product was promoted and advertised. Examples of entries in this category include, but are not limited to, any of the following: homepages, websites, software programs, CD-ROMS, library-designed kiosks, audio/video tapes, and databases.
