LIVE INTERVIEW SERIES: So You Wanna Propose an AALL Annual Meeting Program?

Wednesday, October 21, 2020 (12pm - 12:45pm US/Central)

DESCRIPTION

For librarians and other information professionals, presenting at conferences is a big deal. Presenting is a great way to establish a professional reputation. It introduces you to other people with similar professional interests. Maybe most importantly, many of our promotion systems have presentation or publication requirements. So, when the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC) sends out their annual call for proposals, it represents a significant opportunity for many of us.

But, what makes a good program proposal? What is the committee looking for in a proposal? How are programs picked? Are there external circumstances that most proposers aren't aware of and need to know?

In this So You Wanna…? interview, we hope to answer these questions and more by talking to the source - two former chairs of the Annual Meeting Program Committee Carol Watson, June Liebert, and current AMPC member Janeen Williams. Carol and June were chairs of the committee in 2015 and 2016, respectively, and represent not only a wealth of information about the program proposal process but also the profession in general. Janeen is our very own PEGA-SIS AMPC liaison to the programming committee. We hope that by talking to them we’ll be able to address some frequently asked questions about the program proposal and selection process and ultimately help attendees to write more effective and attractive program proposals.

This series is brought to you by the Professional Engagement, Growth & Advancement SIS and the AALL Continuing Professional Education Committee.

The deadline to register for this event is October 19.
