The purpose of the CONELL Committee is to plan and carry out the Annual Conference of Newer Law Librarians.
The CONELL Committee shall be responsible for planning, promotion, and presentation of the Conference of Newer Law Librarians (CONELL) on an annual basis, currently held the Saturday prior to the start of the AALL Annual Meeting. To this end, the committee shall establish a variety of events during CONELL that allow new AALL members to gain a wide breadth of exposure to AALL and its members. Provided the AALL Annual Meeting schedule permits, the committee shall coordinate a networking activity, such as dine around dinners, for the conference attendees the evening prior to CONELL.
The majority of committee work takes place the evening before, and the day of, CONELL. All committee members must commit to attending CONELL and participating in Dutch treat dinners the evening before the CONELL conference. Members of the committee should be comfortable networking, talking to strangers, and have a general “cheerleader” personality. The average time commitment is about 10-15 hours before CONELL and then about 10 hours at the Annual meeting. The time commitment for the chair and vice chair is a little more labor intensive, about 40 hours total, depending on the work delegated. Note: Time commitments are estimates from past assignments and can change with new projects or requests for assistance from the Executive Board.
Members must be able to attend the AALL Annual Meeting and to arrive by the day before CONELL is held.
Membership on the committee shall be for two years with the exception of the chair who shall serve three years. The returning member selected as vice chair after the first year shall serve in that capacity in the second year and become chair in the third year.
The committee shall normally consist of a chair, vice chair, five members, and a non-voting Executive Board and staff liaison.
